Education minister Mutula Kilonzo has sacked top Education officials in Homa Bay County over the deadly dormitory inferno that killed eight pupils at Asumbi Girls Primary School August 24, 2012.

Top Education officials in Homa Bay County have been sacked over the deadly dormitory inferno that killed eight pupils at Asumbi Girls Primary School.
Education minister Mutula Kilonzo said Friday stern action had been taken after it became apparent the officials had misled the government over holiday tuition.
"The County Director of Education for Homa Bay County and the District Education Officer have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect,” Mr Kilonzo said during a news conference in Nairobi.
Those fired are Beatrice Asiago who is the county education boss and William Akumu, the district education officer.
Mr Kilonzo also dissolved the school's Board of Governors and announced a new board would be constituted soon.
The minister said he had written to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) asking for administrative action against the Asumbi Primary School head teacher.
He announced the government will prosecute officials found culpable by investigations into the fire incident.
Mr Kilonzo ordered schools to remove burglar-proof doors in dormitories and academic areas in all boarding schools around the country.
The eight pupils were among 85 students on holiday tuition.The Ministry is now planning to tour schools across the country to survey the implementation of the Schools’ Health and Safety Regulations. for the Courtesy of Nation Media
